開田高原は不思議と今でも、農村特有のゆっくりした時間が流れているように感じます。
雨の日は観光客も少なく静かで、忙しい現代からワープしてどこか別の次元にやってきたようにさえ感じます。

「最近は、城山展望台のハイキングが人気ですよ。」と教えてくれたのは、開田高原観光案内所の向原さんです。
朗らかでちゃきちゃきとした受け答えが、いつも元気をくれます！

馬を飼っているお宅はもうほとんどありませんが、旧・開田村と木曽馬の間には深いつながりがあるため、木曽馬のモチーフは今でも開田高原のシンボルです。

開田村だった頃から定番のお土産「わら馬」は、稲刈りにコンバインが普及したことで藁の入手が難しくなっているそうですが、外国からの観光客に人気だそうです。

そして今、開田高原観光案内所でダントツ一番人気のお土産は「国道ステッカー 361号」です！
こちらはまた後日レポートしようと思います。

“Kaidakogen Tourist Information Center feels homey and welcoming”

Hello, this is Kibi.
For some reasons, Kaidakogen Plateau still retains the slow pace of the bucolic life.

Many people feel that time moves slower here than the hectic pace where they are from.
Especially on rainy days, there are fewer tourists and it’s quiet, so it feels like I’ve been teleported to another time.

Nowadays, in the Kaidakogen Plateau, almost no one keeps Kisouma, an indigenous Japanese horse.
However, the relationship between villagers and their horses had a long history. So many people, including the younger generation, still cherish the symbol of Kisouma horses.
Handmade horse dolls made of rice straw have long been a popular souvenir.

Ms. Mukaibara has been a staff member at the center for a long time and always gives us useful tourist information.
On that day, she told me “Hiking to Shiroyama-tembodai Observatory is popular these days!”
And that plan was newly added to my bucket list.
