こんにちは、キビです。
田植えが済んで一息つけたので、雪解けから新緑までの田んぼの様子を振り返ってみようと思います。

4月半ばのあたたかい日に種籾の塩水選を行いました。昨年とった種籾を半分に厳選し、丈夫に育つ苗を作ります。
この時の山野はまだ冬の枯れ草色で、春はもう少し先のように感じました。

5月の大型連休中に、田おこしをしました。
機械の進歩は目覚ましいですが、古いマルチの除去と、新しいマルチ張りは人間が行うしかないため、友人にも助っ人を依頼します。
苗代の室をめくって見ると、種籾は瑞々しい苗に成長していました。

5月下旬、いよいよ田植です。
田植え機が入れない隙間の部分は、手で植えるしかありません・・・。農業にも昨今のAIのような画期的な助けが欲しいです！

田植えを終えて水を張るとさっそくカエルが卵を産みにやってきました。ツバメも水面を低空飛空し、巧みに虫たちをつかまえます。

田んぼは人間だけでなく、小さな生き物たちにとっても居心地の良い住処になるようです。
風が吹くと水面がさざなみだってキラキラと輝いていました。

Let’s look back at the details of springtime in the rice fields today!

In the middle of April, the mountains were not yet green. We spent the day selecting rice seeds for planting.

We put rice seeds into salt water and scooped out the light seeds. Only the seeds that sank were rinsed with fresh water and will be planted.

In late May, rice seedlings were growing healthily and were ready to plant.
Nowadays people use machines for planting or harvesting rice but somethings still need human hands.

The old man and his grandson were filling in the gaps in the rice lines. It was tough work so hopefully AI can find better solutions.

While we were working, small creatures – insects, frogs and birds – were waiting for the rice fields to be filled with water.
Because the rice fields will become their new home.
